Is the summer holidays anything but relaxing, are the kids driving you up the wall?
When I need to calm right down, I take a mixed Calcium Magnesium supplement.
This one, from Viridian also contains Zinc, good for fab skin and immunity, never wrong
Calcium is of course needed for bones and teeth, but also for nerve and muscle functioning. Deficiency can lead to rickets, joint pain, insomnia and irritability.
Magnesium is natures tranquilizer, it relaxes nerves and muscles.
If you’re tired by wired or just exhausted you might need more magnesium, It’s very common to be deficient.
I normally take Calcium/Magnesium just before bed time. I mix a teaspoon in a cup of hot water and add 2 stewed prunes.
But you can take it when ever you’re in need for instant calm and tranquility.
A couple of weeks ago we took the zincatest during a lecture at the nutrition course I’m doing.
This is basically a super simple taste test to find out if you are deficient in the important mineral zinc.
Have to say, I felt quite smug, my diet is 80% good, but I was quickly brought down to earth when it turned out my zinc levels were actually pretty low!
I’m in good company, it’s very common to be low in zinc. Teenage boys are almost always deficient.
Zinc is an important antioxidant, if you want your immune system to be in tip-top form stock up on foods containing zinc.
It’s essential for healthy happy skin, it’s needed for new generation of cells, It helps regulate hormone balance and oil glands, so it’s very efficient in treating both acne and dry skin.
Zinc is good for stretch marks, eczema and to speed up wound healing. Growing kids and teenagers need it for growth and it also helps with sugar regulation and fertility and for the uptake of vitamin A, and if you are stressed your need for zinc increases.
So quite an important mineral….!
If you always pick up colds, check your zinc levels.
White spots on the nails can also be a sign of zinc deficiency.
The zinc tally test will tell you if you are low on zinc. It’s an easy to use taste test that will indicate your zinc status.
The whole family took the test and everyone was low!
I have now stocked up on zinc bursting food (see picture above) like oysters, seafood, calf liver, lentils, pumpkin seeds, cashew nuts, brazil nuts, wheat germ and raw cacao.

Stockholm is truly spectacular in summer.
Where else can you catch a boat in the middle of the city and after 20 minutes find yourself on a magical island in the archipelago.
After some exploring you can chill out in this excellent restaurant. Lunch or dinner here is highly recommended
Another day another Shrimp Salad
I had A LOT of shrimp salads this week, the best one at Zink Grill a super nice, laid back, trendy french style restaurant 2 min walk from our hotel.
Don’t let the decor fool you, it looks way to much like a Cafe Rouge chock horror, but the food is beyond nice and clientele is very amusing.
We also indulged in Prinsess Tårta, the best cake in the whole wide world.
No self-respecting swedish café is without this green Blumenthal-esque delight.
We spent a lot of our time in Stockholm on roller coasters.
Gröna Lund is the amusement park a mere 10 min walk from the city center.
Me and the Mr also checked out, or checked in to the fairly new Hotel Nobis (Next door to Acne!!), will post a video review soon.
A visit to Stockholm would not be the same without raiding Acne, came back with among other things the perfect silky bomber jacket that I’m not taking off, ever!
…and of course I had to get a couple of bottles of Pure Pine Tree extract.
