Ingredients:

– 1 1/2 cup home made coconut milk

– 1 teaspoon turmeric

– 1 teaspoon cinnamon

– 1 teaspoon cardamom

– 1 1/2 teaspoon coconut nectar or raw honey

– small piece of ginger

– pinch of black pepper

– pinch of cayenne pepper

Healthy Guilt-free Frappuccino (vegan)

20140705163824(3)I absolutely adore Coffee Frappuccino’s ever since I had my very first Ice-blended coffee at The Coffe Bean in Beverly Hills 1994.
I was working on a documentary with a less than uplifting subject, and sipping on this in the early morning sunshine as I watched the city come to life just made my time in LA very special.
Ice cream have always been my comfort food of choice , I guess I need to cool down…
The above recipe is my healthy version of  an ice-blended drink and It’s super yummy!!
I use dandelion as a coffee substitute, it’s good for the digestion it supports important liver function.

How to Make Home-Made Coconut Milk

I love this whole coconut bonanza that’s happening at the moment, since I absolutely adore anything coconutty!
Home made coconut milk tastes so much nicer than the stuff you get in the shop and you side step any BPA or guar gum.
It’s also incredibly easy to make!
The fat in the coconut milk contains lauric acid which has anti microbial and anti bacterial properties.
It also contains minerals like iron, calcium, potassium and zinc and vitamin C and E.
And if that was not enough coconut oil is made up of medium triglycerides and is metabolised differently to other fats.
Instead of depositing the fat in the body’s fat cells coconut oil is burned like carbohydrates for energy.

Healthy Morning Smoothie for Kids

If you start your morning with a healthy nutritious breakfast you are more likely to continue in that vein for the rest of the day.
But breakfasts can be tricky to get right, the traditional breakfast normally contains absolutely no good nutrients, just stodge and milk…
It is certainly not the way I want my kids to start their day.
It’s important to eat  7-10-ish portions of vegetables (and some fruit) a day but without starting at breakfast time it’s more or less impossible to keep up.
I give my kids a super nutritious and delicious smoothie hiding sprouting broccoli, avocado, chlorella and chia seeds. ( And they have no idea!)
I feel happy and content they’ve started their day with a nutrient-dense breakfast that supports them as they head off to school!

Raw Eggnog

– 1/2 cup cashew nuts soaked

– 8 dates about 1/4 cup dates

– 1 tablespoon raw coconut oil

Hot Healthy Chaga Latte

It was only eight degrees C when I took the kids to school this morning and I was forced to reach deep in the wardrobe to get out my warm dip-dyed fake fur coat out, but even that was not enough.
I needed something more to de-frost and quick.
I hate being cold!
(No, having been born in Scandi-land does not make you immune to cold weather).
For breakfast I first had my good old trusted smoothie, and then I made my warming and insulating healthy latte with medicinal mushroom, almond butter, one date and hot water.
Don’t get repulsed by the mushroom part, it’s really super tasty and so full of hard-working antioxidants!
For this latte I used instant chaga powder from Four sigma you can pick it up at the health food store or online.

Hot Healthy Medicinal Latte

Serves 1

Ingredients:

– 1- 1/2 sachet of instant chaga or shiitake (I use four sigma foods)

– 1 date soaked in water (or date syrup a soaked date tastes better)

– hot water

– 1 large tablespoon of almond butter

– cinnamon on top (optional)

It’s the perfect way to hide vegetables they are not keen on like green leafy veg and avocado.

Recipe:
1/2 Avocado
1-2 handfuls of berries
Romaine lettuce
Rice Milk
Stevia if needed

I adore coffee, unfortunately it’s not mutual.
But I have found a great substitute that is doing wonders for my liver 🙂

What I forgot to say in the video is that the safe levels for caffeine according to research is 400mg for an average adult and 200mg for a pregnant woman. According to Chemical and Engineering News a Grande coffee from a coffee shop contains 330mg, but this have been disputed by the coffee chain.

The Dandelion coffee that worked for me is the Non Instant Dandelion Coffee from Cotswold Health Products.
I’m sure you can get it online.
