7-9 PORTIONS of VEGETABLES & FRUITS A DAY


Eating 7 or more portions of fruit och vegetables every day cuts the risk of dying from cancer and heart disease according to studies. Fresh vegetables  gives the biggest protection followed by salad and then fruit according to studies. Fruit juice had so effect and canned fruit increased the chance of dying.
When I was training as a nutritionist we were told 7-9 portions of vegetables and some fruit a day would increase our health, whereas eating only 5 a day keep us where we are health wise.
So why is the government not telling us to up our vegetable and fruit content?

1. Most people are struggling to even consume 5 vegetables and fruit portion a day. More pressure might backfire.

2. The cost of providing patients in NHS hospitals, prison och schools following the guideline of 7-9 fruit and veg a day would be way to draining on the public coffer.

But knowledge is power and with high-speed blenders and juicers it’s not so hard to consume 7-9 a day as it once was.
