I came to London from Stockholm 19 years ago, and I have to say, I’ve been more than a tad underwhelmed by the national dish, fish & chips, ever since.
Mr kept banging on about the fish & chips he used to get Up-North on Saturdays as a kid. I was pretty convinced this was some rose-tinted memory from childhood.
Well, I take it all back.
I have found the most amazing chippy and it’s a stones through from my house.
Kerbisher & Malt serves your classic fish & chips with all the trimmings, but there’s a twist, It’s all super fresh, it’s all cooked to order and made on site and they don’t use any preservatives.
I always have the same thing, grilled pollock with home-made baked beans and fennel & dill salad. I try to stay away from the gorgeous chips but it’s especially hard here! There are high-pitched screams as I nick a few from the kids .
The boys are not exactly fish lovers but they absolutely adore the calamari with their chips.
If you’re into batter it doesn’t get any better than this… omg it’s to die for, and the mushy peas and the coleslaw and the onion rings….
It’s a proper chippy, but modern and clean, you can eat in or take out, and if you want the see the chef making your order old-style, just look at the CCTV telly in the dining area.
