Natural Make-Up: Living Nature

Living Nature

In an ideal world all cool make-up would be totally natural, without a hint of artificial chemicals and certainly not tested on animals.
If you are a regular reader of this blog you probably know that I have a huge Chanel make-up addiction, which started when über talented Peter Philips took over as creative director for the brand.

I’m always on the look-out for great make-up from natural brands as well, but I find it a bit non inspiring in the health food stores where they are normally sold. Grubby samples and dusty, cramped counters seems to be the norm.
It does not inspire a purchase.
If you want my hard-earned cash you need to sort it people!
It’s a shame because some of the make-up is really, really good.

I had the pleasure of meeting Serena Warwick from Living Nature for a make-up session last week.
Living Nature is a completely natural brand from New Zealand, they use only natural ingredients and preservatives, which makes its shelf life shorter than conventional products, but they also come with a best before date.

Manuka honey, harakeke flax gel and totarol which has great antimicrobial properties is used instead of harsh chemicals, all plants are grown in New Zealand.

Everything is really clean and safe on your skin, and since your skin is the biggest organ in your body, you want to treat it well, and some studies show that we absorb up to 70% of what is put on our skin.

But what about the cosmetics.
Because all colours are completely natural you won’t find a giant selection of different hues and textures.
Serena told me they do a lot of bridal make-up and for that it’s absolutely perfect, there’s a really nice choice of natural beauty-enhancing colours, but if you are after a fashion fix you might need to look elsewhere, for now…

Where I can, I will definitely change to all natural make-up, but I’m not ready to give up on synthetic make-up completely, there are a couple of products that I was very impressed with in the Living Nature range, and they have found their way into my makeup bag.

Here’s my list:
1.Tinted Moisturizer in Day light, (I can get away with a tinted moisturizer!! This is a first!)
2. Luminous Pressed Powder in Medium (really fine)
3. Summer Bronze Pressed Powder (nice colour, not to glittery)
4. Lipstick in Summer Rain (Great pinky-natural colour for everyday)
